Town bridge project will not include cycle lanes

Cycle lanes will not be installed as part of the restoration of a 99-year-old bridge in Grimsby.
Corporation Road Bridge has been closed to traffic since February 2023 as it undergoes a £5m restoration.
North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said cycle lanes were no longer a part of the plans as the bridge was not wide enough.
Six days of footpath closures were announced in early July for contractors to undergo the next phase of work.
A spokesperson for NELC told the Local Democracy Reporting Service:, external "The option for cycle lanes on the bridge was considered during an early phase of the design process.
"Since then the option has been ruled out due to a lack of space."
In mid-June, it was confirmed by the transport portfolio holder Councillor Stewart Swinburn that officers requested more time to go through an independent survey report into the bridge's state.
It was originally budgeted to cost £4.9m, with £5.1m allocated for the project.
Almost £3m was from the Department for Transport, £320,000 from the Local Transport Fund and £1.83m from the council.
A recent council report stated extra funding has been found to introduce a lighting scheme for the bridge.
