Firefighters have urged people to check their tumble dryers regularly after tackling a blaze in Jersey.

A Facebook post, external from Jersey Fire Service said two engines were called out on Saturday to an incident at a property in St Mary believed to have started in a tumble dryer.

The service said people should clean their lint filter after every cycle, not to overload the machine, ensure the vent hose is correctly installed and clear of obstructions and to stay nearby when the dryer is on to avoid the risk of fire.

"One occupant was checked over by paramedics at the scene as a precaution, but we’re thankful to report that no injuries were sustained," firefighters added.
