Police are searching for a group of youths after staff members were allegedly attacked at a Subway food outlet.

Footage filmed by a witness and circulated widely on social media showed what appeared to be two boys and a girl punching and kicking two restaurant workers by the front door.

Merseyside Police said officers were called to a disturbance at Switch Island Leisure Park in Netherton, Sefton, at 17:53 BST on 22 October.

A witness, who called 999, can be heard to say in the video: "The Subway across the way have got kids smashing the shop to bits and they're actually attacking staff members."

'Totally unacceptable'

The force said two Subway employees suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The youths, who had left the scene by the time officers arrived, are still being sought.

Video footage showed the workers managing to ward off the attackers and close the door, which the youths then kicked several times.

Insp Ken Sumner said: "This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we will take action to deal with those who are responsible for behaving in such a way.

"I would ask parents and guardians to please speak to children about their actions. This is not mindless fun.

"People should not be assaulted as they are simply trying to do their job."
