A worker who died after falling about 30ft (9m) into an empty silo at a factory will be "deeply missed" by his colleagues, the company he worked for has said.

The 43-year-old died at the scene of the "industrial incident" at Dugdale Nutrition on Woodend Avenue in the Speke area of Liverpool on Monday, Merseyside Police said.

The firm said it was co-operating with the police investigation into what happened.

Dugdale Nutrition said it had "lost a highly respected professional" who was an "invaluable member of the Speke team". The firm, which manufactures animal feed, said its thoughts were with his "loved ones, friends, and colleagues".

'Highly respected professional'

The company said: "Members of our leadership team attended the site last night to assist the emergency services, and we are continuing to co-operate with the police investigation which is now under way.

"We have lost a highly respected professional whose dedication and strong work ethic made him an invaluable member of the Speke team.

"He will be deeply missed by his colleagues and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

"Our thoughts are with his loved ones, friends, and colleagues and we kindly ask that their privacy is respected at this terrible time."
