Body found after major search for missing man
- Published
A body has been found more than two months after a man went missing in southern Scotland.
Dane McGill, 53, was last seen at about 12:30 on 10 November in the village of Dalswinton near Dumfries.
Police said a body was found in the Dalswinton area on Sunday afternoon and there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
Formal identification is yet to take place but a police spokesperson said the family of Mr McGill had been informed.
The discovery follows a major search operation at the weekend organised by veterans, who knew Mr McGill from his time with the military, and the local community.
Nearly 70 people - many of them travelling from outside the area - took part in the effort to find him.
The search was carried out with help from a number of agencies and police were made aware it was taking place.
Mr McGill was a member of the Fire Mission community for retired veterans.
A previous search effort using Police Scotland's dog unit and marine unit and mountain rescue teams after he was reported missing failed to find any trace of him.
His disappearance at the time was described as "out of character".
