Police have made a fresh appeal for information after a major search effort failed to find any trace of a missing man in southern Scotland.

Dane McGill, 53, was last seen at about 12:30 on 10 November in the village of Dalswinton.

Police Scotland's dog unit and marine unit have been involved in the search along with mountain rescue teams.

No trace has been found of Mr McGill more than one month on and another appeal for assistance has been made.

Police said the missing man walked with a stick and he has been described as about 5ft 9in tall, of slim build with short, grey hair.

He was wearing a camouflage jacket and khaki trousers.

Insp Colin McKinstry said: "Since Dane was reported missing, we have been carrying our searches and inquiries in the Dumfries and Galloway area and in Ayrshire, which he was known to visit.

"Local officers, led by specialist search advisors have been assisted by resources including the mountain rescue team and dog unit.

"Despite these efforts and previous appeals, we have yet to trace him."

He said they were keen to speak to anyone who knew Mr McGill or people in the area who may remember seeing him.

"We've been studying CCTV from in and around the Dalswinton area to gather further information on where he went after last being seen," he added.

"This is a very upsetting time for his family as it is out of character for him to go missing and not keep in contact with them.

"We are all extremely concerned for his safety and wellbeing."
