Barriers have been installed at the entrance to a pedestrian area after vehicles were seen trying to dodge bollards.

Cumberland Council said it installed the barriers by the Crown and Mitre building in Carlisle city centre after regeneration work to Greenmarket and Market Square concluded earlier this month.

A spokesman said: "Recently, there have been reports of drivers attempting to pass through bollard-controlled sections to collect parcels or park in the city centre." a council spokesman said.

The council officially reopened the area with a ceremony on Saturday following £5,5m of work which included new paving, lighting and seating.
