Two teenage boys arrested after a shooting that left a 16-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries have been released on bail.

The victim was found injured on London Road, Sheffield, at about 17:15 GMT on Monday and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

South Yorkshire Police said officers had arrested a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder on Tuesday.

A force spokesperson said no weapon had been recovered yet and inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Officers have been patrolling the London Road area and knocking on doors in the days following the shooting.

Insp Amy Mellor said: "My team and I truly care about this community and several officers chose to come on duty to patrol the streets on their day off in response to this tragedy."

She encouraged anyone who had information or who witnessed the incident to contact police.
