Two men have appeared in court after violence erupted following an amateur football match.

Benjamin Dean, 28, from Trowbridge, and Ryan Rees, 22, from Llanrumney, denied violent disorder at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Joel Collins, 32, had surgery after suffering a "life-changing injury" to his leg following his team Avenue Hotspur's away game against Llanrumney Athletic in Cardiff on Saturday.

Mr Dean also pleaded not guilty to actual bodily harm while Mr Rees denied driving without insurance, and the court also heard how two other suspects wanted in connection with the case had fled and police believed they were in Valencia.

Mr Dean and Mr Rees were both remanded in custody and will next appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 11 November.

People at the game told BBC Wales a group attacked some of the Avenue Hotspur players as they left the changing rooms at Eastern Leisure Centre, Llanrumney.
