Opening of new hospital car park delayed

Work to build the car park began in October 2024

The opening of a five-storey car park at the Royal Derby Hospital has been delayed.

The facility, which will create an additional 500 spaces on the site, was due to open to visitors on Monday.

However, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said the car park would open "later this week".

Construction began in October 2024, with changes to parking rules and a temporary park-and-ride service introduced for patients and visitors.

The trust said workers are "taking a little extra time" to finalise the last details on the car park.

"We promise it will be worth the wait," a spokesperson said.

Visitors are advised the existing park-and-ride at Kingsway Boulevard will continue until 7 November.
