A new five-storey car park at the Royal Derby Hospital is set to open next month.

The facility has been built on the site of the former Car Park 6 and will create an additional 500 spaces.

Construction began in October 2024, with changes to parking rules and a temporary park and ride service introduced for patients and visitors.

The new car park will open on 3 November, while the park and ride service will close on 7 November.

Andrew Selby, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust's director of estates and facilities, said the new car park "will make visiting our hospital easier for all, now and in the future" and address the "long-standing challenge" of limited parking provision amid increasing demand.

With the opening of the new facility, the trust said current blanket short stay only restrictions across the site would be lifted.

In addition, rules at some of the hospital's car parks will revert back to how they were before construction began.

Car Park 2 will no longer be reserved for blue badge holders, while Car Park 7 will return to no maximum stay limits.

Short stay parking will be available in Car Park 8, while Car Park 3 will continue to be for blue badge holders only.

The new car park will also include charging points for electric vehicles, which will go live in 2026.
