A bungalow fire that led to the death of a woman and prompted a murder arrest was "not caused by a criminal act", police have found.

Izabela Chalastra, 46, was taken to hospital after the fire in Forster Street in Nottingham on 1 March and died six days later.

Nottinghamshire Police arrested a 62-year-old man on suspicion of murder two weeks later but have now confirmed he was released without charge.

The force said after a "long and complicated investigation", it had prepared a report for the coroner.

An inquest into Ms Chalastra's death is due to open on 2 October.

Officers initially arrested the suspect on suspicion of attempted murder, but after Ms Chalastra's death, released him on bail and re-arrested him on suspicion of murder.

Ms Chalastra, known as Iza, had lived with her sister in Nottingham for about seven months before moving into shared accommodation, her sister Krystyna Chalastra previously told the BBC.

She described her sister as "bubbly, cheerful" and "liked by everyone".

Krystyna said before her sister died, she had both her hips broken in an injury and was waiting to be granted a house so she could move into accommodation for people who were seriously ill or unable to walk.

Det Insp Craig Hall said: "This has been a long and complicated investigation where we have sought the assistance of experts and carried out in-depth analysis, which has included CCTV and forensic science.

"We have gathered a lot of evidence, and the investigation found this fire has not been caused by a criminal act.

"We have met the family of Izabela and explained the investigation and all the evidence collated. The family have remained at the heart of everything we do."

The force said Ms Chalastra's family still wanted answers into how she died.
