Advice has been issued to anglers ahead of a week long festival in Alderney.

Locals are putting preparations in place ahead of the Alderney Angling Festival beginning on Saturday 18 October.

The Harbour Authority said it wanted to provide anglers with some "useful information" ahead of the festival regarding the conditions of the facilities.

It said the commercial quay would be open to anglers outside the standard commercial hours and that it had requested all pots to be removed from the surrounding waters at the Admiralty Breakwater.

Organisers said this would ensure "sufficient space" for participants to fish "without the risk of fouling their lines".

Regarding safety, the authority said participants needed to check the weather forecast and tidal information ahead of fishing, to wear a lifejacket or flotation suit and to avoid fishing alone in remote areas.

The authority also said anglers should inform a non-participant of their whereabouts and to avoid the Admiralty Breakwater if waves were overtopping.
