Suspect named two years after dad killed in crash

Father-of-two Paul Cunliffe died after cycling home in 2023

A man has been charged following a fatal collision with a cyclist in St Helens in 2023.
Paul Cunliffe was cycling home from work on 4 December 2023 when he was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van on Sherdley Road, St Helens.
Following a police investigation, Lee Southward, 31, has been charged with causing death by careless driving.
Father-of-two Mr Cunliffe, 40, from Thatto Heath, was taken to the Walton Centre at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool but was pronounced dead later the same day.
Mr Southward, of Poynter Street, St Helens, is due to appear Liverpool Magistrates Court on 7 November.
Police said that no further action will be taken in relation to a second driver involved in the incident in 2023.
