Pedestrian dies after being struck by car

A woman in her 60s has died after she was hit by a car near a town centre.

Northamptonshire Police said it happened on Rothwell Road in Kettering at about 16:55 GMT on Friday.

A man was driving a grey Toyota Yaris towards the town centre when he was in collision with a pedestrian, the force said.

A 72-year-old man, from the Wellingborough area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Police said the woman was taken to University Hospital Coventry, where she later died.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses or information.
