Fans have been left disappointed after England's defeat in the Euro 2024 final.

The men's team lost on Sunday to Spain 2-1, with the winner scored in the final moments of a tense game.

Karim Goodchild, from Ipswich, who was in Berlin to watch the final, said: "It is heartbreaking."

The men have not won a trophy since lifting the World Cup in 1966, while the women's team - the Lionesses - won the Euros in 2022 and came second in the World Cup last year.

Mr Goodchild, who had travelled to the stadium with a couple of friends, said the atmosphere felt sombre after England's defeat.

"We always get to the final and never seem to get the job done," he said.

"We always get close.

"It must be heartbreaking for [manager Gareth] Southgate, not being able to lift that trophy."

Jack Kindell-Brown and Lawrence Tate are England fans from Chelmsford and co-hosts of the Talking Loyal football podcast.

"I feel very disappointed," said Mr Tate.

"I really thought we were going to win last night."

Mr Kindell-Brown added: "Everyone is a bit gutted, and the wind is taken out of you, I suppose."

The pair also spoke Southgate's future as manager.

"That is probably it for him," said Mr Tate.

Mr Kindell-Brown said: "It's very hard for a manager to end on a high. If he was to carry on, it could end badly again."

Paul Bibby had covered his home in England flags

Paul Bibby, 58, from Chelmsford, Essex put up patriotic decorations ahead of England's opening match against Serbia a few weeks ago.

Over the past 16 years, he has become well-known for decorating his home for football tournaments, royal occasions and Christmas.

Following Sunday's defeat he said: "When we equalised, I thought we were going to get one more goal and then win.

"First half we were great, and in the second half - I don't know what happened.

"I feel so gutted - if we had won it would have been great for the country and cheered everyone up. Last night was the worst."

Mr Bibby, a full-time carer for his son, said he had received abuse on social media telling him to take his flags down since the defeat.

But he insisted he would continue to wrap his home in flags to support his country.
