A bridge in Grimsby is to be closed to allow parts to be replaced, officials have said.

The Gilbey Road structure will be closed for six nights during November and December.

North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said bearings, which are used to make the bridge deck move, need to be replaced.

The authority said specialist machinery would be used to "jack up the end of the bridge by a small amount, much as you would a car to change the tyre".

According to NELC, closures would take place at the following times:

  • Monday 11 November - both carriageways, from 20:00 GMT to midnight

  • Thursday 21 November - both carriageways, from 20:00 to midnight

  • Monday 25 November - both carriageways, from 20:00 to midnight

  • Thursday 5 December - both carriageways, from 20:00 to midnight

  • Friday 6 December - Westbound carriageway, from 20:00 to 22:00

  • Wednesday 18 December - Westbound carriageway, from 20:00 to 23:00

Diversions would be in place during the work, the council added.
