Work starts on new cycle skills site

Work has started to construct a new site dedicated to teaching cycling skills.
The new facility, part of the Cannock Stadium site, would be completed in the spring and would enable schools and community groups to teach safe cycle skills to youngsters, the district council said.
The development would cost £75,000 and was designed to simulate on-street safety issues faced by cyclists, but without any risk to those learning to ride.
The council also hopes to open other similar facilities in the future.
John Preece, portfolio leader for parks, culture and heritage said: “In 2022 the district hosted the Commonwealth Games mountain biking event.
“The legacy lives on with the development of this facility, which gives residents increased opportunities to get involved with cycling.”
He said the facility had been welcomed by British Cycling, the sport’s national governing body.
