A five-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a crash involving a car and a lorry on a motorway.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the boy and a 38-year-old woman who were travelling in a Vauxhall Astra were taken to hospital after the crash on the M67 eastbound at about 14:45 BST on Monday.

GMP said the child’s injuries were "life-threatening". The woman's injuries were described as "non life-threatening".

A 39-year-old lorry driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

GMP said investigations were ongoing and the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit was appealing for witnesses.

It was also keen to speak to anyone who may have had any footage, including dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
