A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was run over by a van and left with a broken ankle.

He was struck while responding to a domestic incident on Beech Road in Sale on Sunday night.

Kyle Woods, of Wendover Road in Manchester, was also charged with dangerous driving.

The 32-year-old is set to appear before magistrates later.

Ch Supt Colette Rose, of Greater Manchester Police, said her injured colleague was recovering in hospital.

“Everyday our officers respond to incidents with the aim of helping the public and keeping them safe and do not expect or deserve to be targeted in this way," she said.
