A pedestrian has been left in a critical condition after being hit by a bus in a city centre.

The man, in his 20s, was hit just after 23:00 GMT on Saturday by a single decker Arriva near the Empire theatre in Lime Street, Liverpool.

Merseyside Police said he was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The bus driver stopped at the scene.

Police have appealed for any dashcam footage or mobile phone footage. Insp Bernard McHugh said the city centre was busy and "there may have been pedestrians or people getting taxis and in passing traffic who may have witnessed part of the incident".
