A man has been arrested and a "non-viable firearm" seized after armed officers were called to reports of gunshots in Grimsby, police said.

Humberside Police said a member of the public reported seeing two men arguing, one of which was believed to be in possession of a gun, before hearing what they believed to be gunshots on St Michael's Road on Monday morning.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Humberside Police asked anyone with information to come forward.

Det Insp Steve Antrobus said, while no one was hurt in the incident, residents may be feeling "concern and shock".

He added, while the investigation was in the early stages, the men appeared to be known to each other.

A scene guard was in put in place while officers carried out a search of the local area.
