Minute's silence commemorates road traffic victims

People in Guernsey gathered for a minute's silence at St Peter Port's Weighbridge to remember victims of road traffic incidents.

It took place on Sunday, the United Nations-recognised World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

Organised by the charity Living Streets, people gathered at the new memorial at 11:30 GMT.

It was one of a string of events jointly co-ordinated by the Guernsey Bicycle Group (GBG) for Road Safety Week.

On Tuesday, the GBG is hosting a night ride with the slogan "Be Bright, Be Seen," to raise awareness of the importance of visibility for cyclists.

Discounts at local cycle shops were also being offered in support of national charity Brake's Road Safety Week, organisers said.

The GBG said: "In Guernsey, every road user — whether on foot, bike, or behind the wheel — has the right to travel safely."

It asked islanders to "remember the Guernsey community spirit on the road, because every journey matters, and every life counts".
