Mobile speed cameras to monitor 15 new sites
- Published
Speed cameras will be used on 15 new Leicestershire roads from Saturday.
Following concerns from residents, the sites have been added to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership patrol sites.
Monitoring will begin at Anstey Lane, Bowhill Grove and Gooding Avenue in Leicester.
In the county, Bardon Road in Coalville, Barrow Road in Sileby, Bradgate Road in Newtown Linford, Forest Road in Woodhouse and Glen Road in Newton Harcourt will be among the new routes.
Hinckley Road in Sapcote, Little Glen Road in Glen Parva, Main Street in Stanton under Bardon, Sileby Road in Barrow upon Soar, Top Road, Griffydam, Twycross Road in Sheepy Magna, and Warren Hills Road in Abbots Oak have also been included.
Any residents with concerns can ask for a road to be considered in the scheme - but not all end up being monitored.
Partnership spokesperson Jonathan Clarkson said evidence of speeding and crashes was needed.
He added: "We look at the latest vehicle speeds at the location, in some cases this may include deployment of a covert roadside speed survey.
"The policy for enforcement requires there to be both a history of injury collisions and evidence of speeding problems before a speed camera can be deployed."
Mr Clarkson added if speeding was found to be an issue without a history of collisions, data was passed to Leicestershire Police which might still carry out speed enforcement operations.
