Police have renewed their appeal for help in finding the killer of a trainee supermarket manager who was stabbed to death in the street in 2017.

Adam Ellison, 29, was stabbed in the neck following a row with two people on a scrambler bike in the Prescot area of Merseyside.

While 12 people have subsequently been arrested in connection with the attack, no-one has ever been charged.

On the eighth anniversary of Mr Ellison's death, Merseyside Police said his killer was "out there on the streets still" and stressed that detectives were "as committed as ever to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice".

'Beautiful soul'

Mr Ellison, who had been on a night out in Prescot with his three cousins and a friend, was stabbed on Market Place with an unknown weapon at about 00:40 GMT on 4 November 2017.

His attackers fled the scene and the 29-year-old was pronounced dead in hospital.

Rebecca Cunliffe said her boyfriend had been saving up to buy her an engagement ring.

Mr Ellison's family, who described him as a "beautiful soul" and a "gentleman", have previously described their anguish of waiting for justice.

His sister Nicola told BBC North West Tonight the family were "tortured every day knowing that we haven't got justice for Adam" and that his killer was "out there on the streets still".

Det Ch Insp Cath Cummings said the murder investigation "remains ongoing and our thoughts are with his family as we know the anniversary is a painful and difficult time for them".

She added: "Eight years is a long time for them to not have justice for their loss, but the investigation team remains as committed as ever to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice.

"People in the community who we know have vital information have stayed silent for too long and now is the time for them to step up and give the family the answers they deserve.

"If you don't want to speak to the police then you can pass on information anonymously via Crimestoppers but please don't let those who are responsible for Adam's death continue to walk free."
