Three men have been arrested after a motorcyclist and a pedestrian died in a crash on a busy road.

Lancashire Police said a BMW motorbike crashed with two pedestrians on the A6 Preston Road in Clayton-Le-Woods at 20:30 BST on Thursday.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s from Macclesfield, Cheshire, and one of the pedestrians, a man in his 60s from Clayton-Le-Woods, both died at the scene.

Three men, who were all in the area at the time of the collision, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 53-year-old from Whittle-le-Woods, a 57-year-old man from Middlewich, and a 46-year-old man from Congleton, both in Cheshire, have all been released under investigation pending further inquiries, police said.

The second pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition.

Det Sgt Joe Ghigi said: "This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of two men, and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.

"Our thoughts are with the woman receiving treatment, and the loved ones of both men who died.

"They are being supported by specially trained officers at this incredibly distressing time."
