Guernsey Ports has appointed its chief operating officer as its new managing director.

Ross Coppolo has 21 years of experience in the ports sector and his appointment followed a "highly-competitive and extensive" recruitment process.

He will work with outgoing managing director Colin Le Ray in the coming months to ensure a successful transition into the role.

Dr Simon Thornton, chairman of the Guernsey Ports board, said: "Ross will have a clear focus on developing and diversifying commercial opportunities, increasing efficiency and continuing to provide a high standard of public service to islanders."

Following the announcement, Mr Coppolo said: "I am hugely excited to take on the role and to lead a great Ports team as we continue to focus upon growing and diversifying the business and building on our future ambitions."
