People who took part in a 39-mile charity walk earlier this year have been celebrated at an awards ceremony.

The Saffery Rotary Walk awards ceremony took place at Guernsey's Government House on Tuesday.

More than 1,100 people took part in the round-the-island walk on 8 June, raising more than £90,000 for 21 local charities, the organisation said.

Trophies were awarded for a variety of categories, from youngest walker to most sponsorship by an individual.

The award for most sponsorship raised by a team was won by a group of schoolchildren from Somerset called Walkie Talkies, who raised more than £2,000.

Team captain Ella, eight, persuaded a group of her school friends to visit Guernsey for the walk as her grandfather is one of the event's organisers.

The group tackled the course as a relay and Ella said she motivated her team by reminding them of the money they had raised for a good cause.

"We only trained together once, we did a big long walk around Somerset," she said.
