Charity walk calls for last-minute sign-ups

The walk's 39-mile route follows the coastline of Guernsey

A charity walk around Guernsey is calling for last-minute sign-ups before the entry deadline closes.

The Saffery Rotary Walk will take place on 8 June in aid of 21 local charities and welcomes islanders of all ages and abilities.

Walkers are being encouraged to sign up before midnight on Friday to take advantage of the standard registration fee, but they can still register up until midday the day before the race.

Lisa Vizia, director of the Saffery Trust, said: "Whether you are an avid walker who has not yet had the chance to register, or perhaps you have considered participating in the Saffery Rotary Walk for a number of years, now is the time to take the leap and give the challenge a go."

Ms Vizia encouraged walkers to share selfies from the 39-mile walk with the #SafferySelfie hashtag, which will give them a chance to win a state-of-the-art smart watch.

Simon Milsted, walk chairman, said the walk gave islanders a chance to experience the Guernsey's "breath-taking coastal views" while supporting the charities.

Mr Milstead said: "Even if you are not taking part yourself, please show your support for anyone you know is taking part by sponsoring them ahead of this year's walk.

"And if any of our walkers pass you by on walk day, be sure to show your support by cheering them on."
