How Chobham Fire Station could look after the redevelopment

The redevelopment of a Surrey fire station has been delayed until next year due to flood plain issues raised by the Environment Agency (EA).

Surrey County Council said the delay is a disappointment but it is working to address the issues so it can get the plans approved.

Redevelopment work, which will improve staff facilities and allow the station to accommodate new larger fire engines, is now expected to begin in spring 2025.

The EA said it objected to the development, which is on a flood plain, because the applicant had not provided an acceptable flood risk assessment.

An EA spokesman said a flood risk assessment demonstrates that the surrounding area is not adversely affected".

He said it is a "standard approach for development proposals in a flood plain".

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service’s chief fire officer, Dan Quin, said he remains committed to providing the best facilities for his firefighters and the Chobham community.

“Our land and property team is working diligently to resolve the issues raised by the EA and we will continue to keep the community informed as the situation progresses," he added.

The crews from Chobham will be based at Woking Fire Station during the building works.

Chobham Fire Station will remain open until the work can begin.
