Police were called to Birchington Avenue, Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, at about 00:30 BST.

The injured man was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition, Cleveland Police said.

A 21-year-old from Redcar appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in custody.
