Armed police have seized an XL bully after an 87-year-old man was injured while breaking up a dog fight.

Officers attended a property on the B4245 in Portskewett, near Caldicot, at about 11:50 BST on 8 April.

After receiving reports of a dog-on-dog attack, they seized a large dog “believed to be an XL bully”.

Gwent Police added firearms officers were sent "as a precaution” but the man’s injuries were not life-threatening and enquiries are ongoing.

Restrictions on XL bully ownership came in on 1 February 2024, and it is an offence to own one without an exemption certificate.
