A new electric bus is being trialled on Guernsey's roads over a number of weeks.

It is the latest trial of hybrid or fully electric buses over the last year and the second this month.

The "island ready" Higer bus is 8.9m (29ft) long, just over 2.3m (8ft) wide and has a range of up to 186 miles.

Representatives from the States and Guernsey operator CT Plus will look at the customer experience on the bus as well as its manoeuvrability on Guernsey's routes, and energy consumption.

Niall Roberts, Harris Group sales representative, said the island was "ideal" as it offered the "stop-start of a busy town setting with also the hills and longer reaches of a rural environment".

Kevin Hart, CT Plus director, said the bus has had "updates and improvements" since it was last trialled in the island.

"Guernsey has quickly become the focus where the latest bus technology is being tested.

"I’m delighted that this will also include in-service testing where passengers can get an actual feel for the modern layout and handling of the Higer STEED XL and its versatility around the island."
