A new ten-year driving licence will rise by 40% from 2024

The cost of a new Jersey driving licence will increase from £50 to £70 in 2024, the parishes have announced.

A provisional licence, which lasts for six months, will rise by 50% from £20 to £30, and additional payments for same-day services will rise from £25 to £35.

The Comité des Connétables said the cost of a licence had remained unchanged since April 2017, and that it wanted prices raised in line with inflation.

But the increases appear to be above inflation, according to Statistics Jersey.

Figures show since the current licence rates were set between March 2017 and September 2023, prices have risen by just below 37%.

The committee said the money paid for the time and materials needed to issue a licence card, and helped maintain parish by-roads.

It said in addition to the rises, islanders could now apply for a first provisional driving license online and that they could provide a selfie as a photo - although some physical documents would still need to be taken in to parish halls.
