Hundreds of people have attended the funeral of a four-year-old boy who died in a car crash in June.

Mourners dressed in baby blue and light yellow have gathered to mark the death of Peter Maughan, known affectionally as "Peter Rabbit".

Peter died following a crash on the evening of 1 June in New Barn Road in Southfleet, Kent.

Light blue and white tributes in the shape of kinder eggs, cars and trucks filled the funeral in Dartford on Thursday.

Floral tributes included images of Peter and flowers spelling out "golden boy" and "Peter Rabbit".

Others took the shape of some of Peter's favourite treats, while people dressed as his best-loved cartoon characters were also present.

Peter's father, Lovell, who was also injured in the crash, said: "I want to thank everyone for coming, travellers and non-travellers alike, and showing their respect for my Peter - it's so hard to see him go.

"Our whole world has been turned upside down."

Peter died following a crash at 21:30 BST on 1 June, involving two Ford Ranger pickup trucks.

Father and son Patrick and Owen Maughan were both charged with the murder of Peter and a provisional trial date has been set for 2 February.

The pair, 53 and 27, are also both accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Peter's father, Lovell Mahon, 24, and the attempted wounding with intent of Peter's mother, Hayley Maughan, and a one-year-old girl.

The pair, both of Hill Rise in Darenth, are due to appear in court in October ahead of the trial in February, which is estimated to last four weeks.
