Man, 19, struck and killed after police pursuit

The crash caused long delays overnight and into the Monday morning rush hour

A 19-year-old man whose car had been pursued by traffic officers was then fatally struck by a car after he ran down a motorway, police have said.
It happened at the Simister Island junction between the M60 and M66 at about 21:40 GMT on Sunday, Greater Manchester Police said.
The force said a blue BMW X3 was initially spotted driving at speed on Bury Old Road before going through a red light. Officers gave chase before finding the car abandoned at the junction, having crashed with another vehicle.
Its occupants fled the scene on foot along the motorway before one of them was hit by a Tesla, police said.
No arrests been made and officers have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
A referral has also been made to GMP's professional standards directorate and the Independent Office for Police Conduct, in line with usual procedures.
Parts of both the M66 and M60 closed overnight following the incident, causing long delays on both motorways.
The M66 reopened just after 11:00 GMT.
A separate three-car crash on the M60 anti-clockwise between Junctions 13 at Worsley in Salford, and Junction 12 for Winton, also caused delays of more than 45 minutes.
National Highways said it had caused nearly seven miles of traffic.
