'Feisty' sheep rescued after being stuck a week

A sheep has been rescued after being stuck on the ledge of a rocky outcrop for a week.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called out to the Langsrath Valley in the Lake District on Thursday by a farmer in Borrowdale who alerted them to the sheep.

The team rigged a rope rescue system and lowered themselves down to the animal.

Despite having eaten all of the available vegetation, the animal put up some "feisty resistance" to being saved, its rescuers said.

They eventually managed to put the sheep in a harness and hoist it up to the top of the outcrop.

After it was released it "trotted off to some greener pastures", a team spokesman said.
