Plans for a cancer care and support centre have been put forward.

If approved, it will be run by the Maggie's cancer charity and built at the University Hospital in Coventry.

The building would be one-storey, and go on artificial grass mound overlooking a nature reserve by the hospital.

The hospital said it would help "some of the sickest people who come here for care and treatment, and their family and friends".

Architects who drew up plans for the centre said it would be a first of its kind in the West Midlands, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

The hospital's clinical director for oncology and haematology, Dr Lydia Fresco, said: “The patients we care for at UHCW can be emotionally scarred, tired and stressed as well as physically drained.

“Having a beautiful Maggie’s centre on the hospital grounds will make a real difference."
