A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal incident that caused another driver to come off the M57 motorway before their car burst into flames.
Merseyside Police had been called at 15:00 BST on Wednesday to reports a black Audi A5 car had left the motorway on the northbound carriageway and caught fire.
The body of a 60-year-old man was found inside the vehicle between junctions 2 and 3 in Knowsley.
John Butler, 31, who was driving a VW Golf at the time, faces charges of causing death by dangerous and dangerous driving after the incident, Merseyside Police said.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Following inquiries, it's believed there was an incident prior to the collision involving a dark coloured Volkswagen Golf."
Mr Butler, of Shaftesbury Avenue in Kirkby, was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrate's Court earlier.
The force had previously thanked witnesses at the scene who "rushed into a difficult situation to help" the driver.
