Alex Flewitt, from the group, said winning the award was "the icing on the cake" of the experience they had at the festival.

She said the cast and crew were "just thrilled that we'd had such a positive experience and managed to showcase our wonderful island of Alderney to so many new people".

The National Drama Festival showcases groups who had previously won awards and have been deemed by adjudicators as the "cream of amateur theatre".

It is described by organisers as one of the prestige annual events in the amateur theatre calendar.

Alderney Theatre Group was praised for direction, atmosphere and the relationships between characters.

The group thanked sponsors from Guernsey Arts, Guernsey Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Club and Alderney residents.
