A man has been released on bail after appearing in court charged with murder following an incident outside a sports club.

Police were called to Ickleford Sports and Recreation Club near Hitchin, Hertfordshire, at about 22:30 BST on Sunday 16 June.

The victim, who has been named online as Grant Wallendorf, had allegedly been assaulted in the car park and died in hospital from his injuries.

Oscar Jackson, 21, of Wilshere Crescent in Hitchin, was granted bail on Monday at Cambridge Crown Court.

Mr Jackson has not yet entered a plea to the charge.

A pre-trial hearing will take place in July with a trial date set for 18 November.

Det Ch Insp Nick Gardner, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit, said: “This is a difficult time for the family of the victim.

"We have specially trained officers helping them through what is a tragic incident and I extend my condolences to them.

“I’d like to thank members of the public who helped at the scene in the first instance, and all of those that have come forward with information to help our investigation."

He appealed for anyone else with information to get in touch.
