Search and rescue hero honoured in charity cycle

A man from Herefordshire is planning to cycle more than 250 miles for charity in memory of his brother-in-law.
Rob Coldicott, from Whitbourne, will travel from London to Bala "in loving memory” of Paul Hickson who helped save lives in north Wales.
Mr Hickinson was described as “dynamic and friendly” and was an integral part of the South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team (SSSRT).
The 63-year-old served as its deputy leader until he passed away after a short illness in July 2023.
He retired to Bala but hailed originally from London - hence the chosen route to celebrate his memory.
The life-saving team that Mr Hickinson once belonged to operates in the south of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.
It provides vital support to police in the event of a mountain emergencies, and is called upon to help locate missing or vulnerable people in lowland and built-up areas.
Mr Coldicott said: "He touched so many lives and a few more people are walking around today thanks, in part, to his involvement with the SSSRT.
"Paul was instrumental in the development of training new recruits, overseeing the team’s equipment and kit, and representing the team at national meetings and beyond."
Ahead of the event keen fundraisers have already managed to raise £2,000.
Now Mr Coldicott, who is semi-retired and works in the community, is calling for people to take part in the ride to help boost the funds for the rescue team.
"We are looking for as many cyclists and cheerleaders as possible to join us on our London-Bala 2024 Tour.
"You do not have to ride all of the way, even a few hours in the saddle with us would be great."
The journey starts on 28 May and is expected to take five days.
