Leicester Pride is set to return this weekend with a new, longer parade route.

The free annual event, which celebrates equality, diversity and the LGBTQ+ community, will take place on Saturday and culminates with a firework display.

The festival begins with a parade from 12:00 BST, starting at the Curve Theatre in Rutland Street and heading to Abbey Park by 13:00, where there will be two stages, a dance arena and funfair, which will be open until 21:00.

The new 1.7-mile (2.7km) route passes through The Lanes, Jubilee Square and along High Street, before heading to the main festival area.

Organisers say Leicester Pride is a family event with entertainment and attractions suitable for all ages.

The event has been running under the current team since 2009 and in 2022 it moved to its current home of Abbey Park.

There are now two entrances to the site from Charter Street and St Margaret's Pastures, and a free bus service will run throughout the day from The Rainbow & Dove bar in Charles Street, Leicester.

The main stage at Abbey Park will be headlined by DJ Josh Harrison and Donna Marie as Lady Gaga.

There is also a 1,000-capacity dance arena and community stage.

Organisers added the event is attended by more than 10,000 people each year, with more than 2,000 taking part in the parade through the city.
