Donated gifts are set to packed and distributed to elderly and vulnerable islanders who may be spending Christmas alone.

Guernsey residents receiving support under adult community services will be given the gifts bags over the weekend as part of an annual event.

Social care manager for adult community services, Angie Harrison said: "We know that some people we visit may not see anybody else on Christmas day.

"We make sure everybody gets a gift."

The gifts will be a "big surprise" for some people

Charitable fund, Gifts for the Elderly and Vulnerable, asks the public to donate gifts which are later distributed.

Ms Harrison said the gifts will be a "big surprise" for some of the people who receive support.

She said the gift bag contains items including toiletries, chocolates, calendars, magazines, slippers and "cosy blankets".

"We sort them out to make sure they are correct for the people they are going to", she said.

"Everybody is treated the same, it's just nice to see their faces when the staff give them their gifts."
