The Metsä tissue factory in Goole could create up to 400 new jobs

The company behind plans for new tissue paper factory in East Yorkshire have launched a second public consultation.

The site in Goole will be "state-of-the-art" and create more than 400 jobs, according to Metsä Tissue.

A public exhibition will take place later at the RaisE Business Centre, Goole, on 5 November from 15:00 GMT to 19:00. The plans will also be available online.

Alan Jeffery, Metsä Tissue’s technical director, said since the company last shared its designs, "a significant amount of work to finalise building layouts, biodiversity features and access plans has taken place".

He said the mill would "represent a tremendous opportunity for the region, both in terms of job creation and sustainability in tissue paper production".

Once in operation, the factory will create products including toilet paper, tissue paper and hand towels.

Plans for the factory were announced in September 2023 and a three-week consultation period was held in March.

When completed, it will have a capacity to produce 240,000 tonnes of tissue paper using fresh wood fibres grown in Nordic forests, according to the Finnish firm.

The consultation will give residents a chance to share their views before a formal planning application is submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The latest consultation will close on 15 November.
