A golf club in a leafy suburb may have come up with the par-fect plan to raise some capital.

Whitchurch Golf Club, in the popular area of Rhiwbina, Cardiff, is gauging potential interest in the course's seventh hole and its likely value, the club's general manager Paul Crowe said.

The 1.1 hectare (2.6 acre) triangular-shaped plot is described by property agents Savills as a "prime residential location", although no price is listed.

Mr Crowe said no formal offers had been made and he stressed that "our members will have the final say on what happens".

The club would reconfigure its land after any sale to "maintain and improve" the 18-hole course, Savills said.

Mr Crowe said they were exploring options to raise funds to future-proof the club, which was founded in 1914.

This would include improving sustainability through water management measures and the use of drought-resistant grass to cope with changing weather conditions.

"At the moment we are trying to ascertain the value of the land and to establish who would be interested in buying it," he said.

"There is no definite decision to sell and we are purely trying to put our best foot forward for our members.

"We are looking at our overall strategy and what we want to do with the club and to have a plan and finance behind it."

The land is described as being suitable for residential use, senior living, care or other alternative uses, subject to planning permission

The listing on the Savills website said: "The property previously formed the 171 yard, par 3, hole 7 and has a moderate incline from north to south.

"It has now been declared surplus by Whitchurch Golf Club and following the sale of the property, the course will be reconfigured to maintain and improve the 18-hole course."

It added that the size of the plot was approximate and was "subject to refinement and agreement with the successful developer".
