Community spaces for anyone struggling to keep warm this winter have been opened again in Surrey.

Eighty-four locations including libraries, charity shops and churches have offered their help to residents.

Providing a warm space, a hot drink and somebody to talk to, the Warm Welcome community initiative offers support from November through to March 2025.

A Surrey County Council spokesperson said: "Whether you are old or young, live alone or with your family, feel like you are struggling or just managing to get by, a Warm Welcome awaits you."

The initiative aims to support those across the county who are affected by the cost of living crisis and energy prices.

The council spokesperson added: "Many millions of UK residents will be affected by high energy bills, rising mortgage costs and Surrey is no different.

"Many of our neighbours, friends, and families will be forced to make difficult decisions on whether to heat their homes or eat three meals a day."

Each venue will be offering slightly different support with some providing energy and financial advice.

Other venues will be giving out free clothes and fuel vouchers.
