Teacher strikes postponed after storm disruption
- Published
Teachers in Jersey have voted to postpone their strike in November, in light of disruption caused by the storm.
Members of the National Education Union (NEU) were due to walk out on 14, 15 and 16 November in an ongoing dispute over pay.
The NEU said the delay was a "gesture of goodwill" after Storm Ciarán caused damage to schools, communities and homes.
Caryn Symons, senior regional officer, said the union remained focused on getting the best deal possible for its teachers in Jersey.
She said: "Workload, retention and recruitment in schools continues to impact across the education system and improved strategies need to be adopted to address this.
"It is the right thing to do to acknowledge the affect of storm Ciaran at this time on the island however, this will be a postponement as a gesture of goodwill and not a withdrawal of action for all the reasons identified.”
