Guildford Lido is to offer year-round swimming from October.

All-year swimming at the outdoor pool was offered from 2014, but ended during the Covid 19 pandemic.

A campaign to have it reinstated for the winter of 2024/25 was unsuccessful.

The pool, which dates from the 1930s, will also offer longer opening hours during the summer.

The Lido's operation has been taken over by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Guildford Borough Council.

General manager Finlay Broekhuizen said: "Swimming in the Lido is something truly special, there's nothing like the crisp autumn air combined with warm, welcoming water.

"It's a fantastic way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors, whatever the season."

Catherine Houston, the council's lead member for leisure, said: "Year-round outdoor swimming is something that the council has been asked about for many years and I am pleased that we've been able to deliver on this.

"It means there will be much more opportunity for residents to stay active, connect with others and enjoy Guildford's leisure heritage in a fresh new way."
