'Unavoidable delays' as M62 junction work begins
- Published
Motorists have been warned of "unavoidable delays" as major works to upgrade a motorway junction roundabout take place.
Tarbock Island, off the M62 in Knowsley is being upgraded over the next two years as part of £10m investment to improve connectivity and flow of traffic.
The roundabout, at junction six, is set to be widened and the number of lanes on the approach will be increased.
In a statement Knowsley Council said: “Whilst all possible steps are being taken to minimise disruption there will be some unavoidable delays to journeys."
Eastbound slip road closure
Preparatory work on the eastbound approach to Tarbock Island started last week.
The next phase of work will see temporary lane closures on the westbound carriageway of Cronton Road, on the Aldi side of the road, between 09:30 and 15:30 BST.
The M62 eastbound junction slip road, exiting the motorway from Liverpool, will be closed from 21 May at all times until September. Traffic will be diverted through junction seven.
The authority advised drivers "to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, or choose alternative routes where possible”.
The initial improvement work is funded through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund.
